Eheim Aquarium Prefilter 6664 with Two Filter Baskets for External Filters

The Eheim 6664 Prefilter is an aquarium prefilter designed to trap coarse dirt before water reaches an external filter, using two filter baskets with aquarium filter cartridges.

• Traps most coarse dirt before it reaches the external filter — helps keep larger particles out of the main filter.
• Designed to help avoid premature clogging of the external filter — supports longer operation before clogging.
• All-round suction — draws water in around the prefilter for gentler tank filtration.
• Two filter baskets with aquarium filter cartridges — provides the prefilter’s stated filtration components.

Coarse debris in aquarium water can reach an external filter as water is drawn through the system. The Eheim 6664 adds a prefilter stage to intercept much of that dirt first, making it suited to aquariums using an external filter where gentler, all-round suction is wanted. It is a functional filtration component focused on collecting coarse particles before they reach the external unit.

What does the Eheim 6664 Prefilter do?

The Eheim 6664 Prefilter catches the majority of coarse dirt particles before water reaches the external aquarium filter. This added stage is designed to help prevent the external filter from clogging prematurely. Its all-round suction supports gentler filtration in the tank.

• Works as an additional prefilter stage ahead of the external filter.
• Targets coarse dirt rather than replacing the external filter.

What is included in the Eheim 6664 Prefilter?

The Eheim 6664 Prefilter consists of two filter baskets with aquarium filter cartridges. Together, these components form the prefilter that intercepts coarse debris on the way to the external filter. The stated contents are the two baskets and their aquarium filter cartridges.

• Two filter baskets.
• Aquarium filter cartridges for the baskets.

Eheim’s background is in aquarium equipment: the company was founded in 1949 by engineer Gunther Eheim, and in the 1960s it introduced the first aquarium suction filter. The Eheim, mp and jäger brands later came together as Eheim Aquatics Group, with products and services managed under the Eheim brand from 2012. This history provides context for a prefilter made for aquarium filtration; it does not change the specific function of the 6664, which is to collect coarse debris ahead of an external filter.

The Eheim 6664 Prefilter suits aquarium keepers who use an external filter and want an added stage for coarse dirt, with all-round suction for gentler tank filtration. It is an auxiliary prefilter, not a replacement for the external filter.
