Hygger CO2 aquarium soil is a planted-tank substrate for aquatic plants and shrimp, with a buffered pH range of 6.5–7.5 and an 8.8-pound (3.99 kg) quantity.
Setting up a planted aquarium means choosing a substrate that supports plant growth while helping establish suitable water conditions. Hygger CO2 aquarium soil is made for aquascaping with aquatic plants and shrimp. It can be used in a new aquarium; during initial setup, its nutrient release may temporarily affect sensitive species, so plan the water changes before adding livestock.
Its porous, sintered structure encourages beneficial bacteria to colonize the substrate, while its fine texture helps keep the soil from scattering easily. The soil also naturally reduces water hardness as it acidifies and softens the water, contributing to a nutrient-rich environment for aquatic plants.
Hygger CO2 soil is formulated to maintain a stable pH between 6.5 and 7.5. This range is intended to support aquatic plants and sensitive shrimp in planted tanks, while the soil’s natural water-buffering action helps maintain slightly acidic conditions.
Pour the soil directly into the aquarium without rinsing it, then add water slowly. Washing can remove beneficial microorganisms and may break the soil down into mud. After setup, make daily water changes during the first 3–5 days, with at least three changes before adding livestock. Avoid adding it directly to an established tank because the initial nutrient release may temporarily affect sensitive species.
Hygger CO2 aquarium soil suits aquascapers setting up planted tanks who want a substrate designed for aquatic plants and shrimp, with a porous structure for bacterial colonization and natural water conditioning. It is intended for aquarium setup rather than direct addition to an established tank.
Q: Should I rinse Hygger CO2 aquarium soil before using it?
A: No. Add Hygger CO2 aquarium soil directly to the tank without rinsing; washing may remove beneficial microorganisms and break the soil down into mud.
Q: When can I add livestock after setting up with Hygger CO2 aquarium soil?
A: Make daily water changes during the first 3–5 days after setup and complete at least three changes before adding livestock.
