Changes in a senior dog’s routines, such as confusion, getting stuck in corners, nighttime pacing or disrupted sleep, can be concerning for the whole household. Senior Dog Wisdom is intended to provide nutritional support for cognitive function and healthy aging as dogs enter the later stage of life. It is made for owners looking to support their dog’s brain health as part of long-term care.

What is Senior Dog Wisdom designed to support?

Herbsmith Senior Dog Wisdom is formulated to support cognitive function and mental well-being in aging dogs. Its purpose is to nourish the brain with nutrients associated with healthy brain function, while also supporting overall long-term health. The formula is intended for senior dogs whose owners want to provide nutritional support as age-related cognitive changes arise; it is not presented as a diagnosis or treatment for dementia.

• Provides nutritional building blocks for healthy aging.
• Made for concerns such as disorientation, restlessness at night and changes in sleep-wake patterns.
• Supports brain health alongside the physical health needs of an aging dog.

Which nutrients are in the formula?

The formula combines DHA with L-carnitine, alpha lipoic acid, branched-chain amino acids and ginkgo biloba. These ingredients are included as part of a veterinarian-developed nutraceutical blend intended to support a healthy brain. Herbsmith describes the formula as phytonutrient-based, bringing several selected nutrients together in one 75 g supplement.

• DHA and the other listed nutrients are chosen for their role in supporting brain health.
• The formula was created by Dr. Chris Bessent, a holistic veterinarian.
• Herbsmith identifies Senior Dog Wisdom as veterinarian-recommended.

When should I start giving it to my dog?

The recommended starting point is the last third of a dog’s life, and the age can differ by size. Herbsmith gives large dogs such as Great Danes an example starting range of 4–5 years, medium dogs such as Australian Shepherds 7–9 years, and small dogs such as Chihuahuas 10–12 years. These size-based ranges help account for differences in when dogs reach their senior years.

• Large dogs: 4–5 years old.
• Medium dogs: 7–9 years old.
• Small dogs: 10–12 years old.
• Continued use allows the ingredients to build up in the pet’s system; the brand says the formula becomes more effective the longer it is used.

Senior Dog Wisdom is intended for owners of aging dogs who want a nutrient-based way to support cognitive function and long-term health. Its size-specific starting guidance is useful for households deciding when to add brain-health support, particularly as a dog approaches the final third of life. The 75 g formula combines named brain-support nutrients and was developed by a holistic veterinarian in the USA.
