Generic Aquarium Corner Underground Cave is a buried corner hideout for aquarium and terrarium animals, designed to create a shaded retreat beneath substrate; the small size measures 6.4 × 7.1 × 2.6 in (16.3 × 18.0 × 6.6 cm).
Many bottom-dwelling and shy animals seek covered spaces where they can rest, hide, or explore out of view. This cave creates that sheltered area at substrate level without placing a traditional ornament in the middle of the aquarium. It is intended for corydoras, kuhli loaches, plecos, bettas, shrimp, and snails, and can also be partly buried in a terrarium for reptiles or amphibians.
Its flat edges are made to sit flush against both glass walls in a tank corner, while the top shelf takes a layer of sand or gravel. Once the surrounding substrate is blended over the cave, the openings remain visible and the hideout sits beneath the surface rather than standing above the aquascape. This arrangement keeps the main swimming area visually open.
The textured, rock-like surface holds substrate so the cave can blend with the tank’s existing sand or gravel. The corner shape makes this a section-of-the-tank accent, not a full-tank centerpiece. Tank dimensions can differ even among aquariums with the same gallon capacity, so compare the cave’s width and depth with the corner space in your setup.
The cave comes in three sizes, with the small version measuring 6.4 in wide × 7.1 in deep × 2.6 in tall (16.3 × 18.0 × 6.6 cm).
The medium measures 7.5 in wide × 8.3 in deep × 3 in tall (19.1 × 21.1 × 7.6 cm), and the large measures 9.1 in wide × 10 in deep × 3.7 in tall (23.1 × 25.4 × 9.4 cm). Use the exact width and depth to check the available corner area before choosing a size. Two caves can be placed in separate corners to create additional hiding places or a larger underground landscape.
Rinse the cave under lukewarm water, place it directly on the bare tank bottom, and gently adjust it until both flat edges meet the glass. Add substrate over the top shelf and around the open edges until only the cave entrances show. Setup takes about two minutes; the lightweight cave is designed to stay stable once buried rather than tip or float.
Several wide openings connect to an open interior, allowing animals to enter, pass through, and leave without a dead-end tunnel. The shaded shelter is designed to encourage natural hiding behavior for bottom dwellers and shy fish, and offers shrimp and snails a place to rest, graze, or molt. For a terrarium, partially bury the cave to form a den for reptiles or amphibians.
Each piece is 3D printed from plant-based PLA and is specified as non-toxic and BPA-free. The original corner design is made in the USA in a small family-run workshop, where each piece is printed, finished, and individually checked before it is packed.
Choose this hideout if you want to give bottom-dwelling fish, shy fish, shrimp, snails, or terrarium animals a sheltered space while keeping the main tank area visually open. Its corner placement, substrate-covered shelf, and multiple entrances make it a compact underground-style retreat for setups with a suitable free corner.
